I know this is not a bitch and moan meme from Annette, but a little bit has to come out in this post.
I love my kids - they are the sweetest thing since chocolate, and sometimes taste like pure cocoa! They are PICKY! Very, very picky! They are much more boxed and canned people than actual food people. So when Gorton's (waves frantically and yells *****HIIIIIII*****) asked me if I wanted to try working with them and this campaign, I knew I had to try.
Now don't judge me too harshly, but I don't like fish! I'm so allergic that it scares me, and I stay away from all of it. But I still want the kids to eat healthy and get the great Omegas that they need in their diet. So even though I can't eat fish, I will cook it.
We got a great bag of Gorton's fish for the kids and fiance to try. I was cooking it (and not telling them what dinner was) and they came in from the play area and said, "Mmmm, what's for dinner? That smells really good!" Hence the oven door gets opened and I have to adjust the time on the cooking because they are letting all of the heat out of the oven. No problem. If it means they are going to eat, and eat well. Let them leave all the heat out.
I sat them all down at the table and gave everyone their dips of choice. We had katchup, tartar sauce, and just plain. The kids were actually quiet for a good part of dinner. It's nice when their mouths are so full that they can't speak. My 17 year-old daughter was the first to speak. "Mmm, this is really good. This isn't the same stuff we normally get is it? I don't know, maybe I'm just really hungry."
Then my fiance told them that this was something new and it was from Gorton's. The younger kids said, "Oh, I see them on TV."
My fiance made the most wonderful observation of all. "Mmmm, this has REAL fish in it, not that chopped up stuff."
So, I fed the gang with a great healthy meal (I had boring chicken that I didn't have so much great things to say about it.) and they liked it. Not once did I hear, "I don't like this, it's gross" or "Do I have to eat this?" or "Is there something else I can have, this doesn't taste right."
Now don't go thinking I'm not a good cook or you won't get any of the good things I have coming for you.
